AI Support Resolution Cost Calculator

An AI response is not necessarily a resolved support ticket. This calculator counts an AI resolution as durable only if it remains resolved over your chosen follow-up window. Initially unresolved and reopened tickets escalate to a human path. All AI attempts and human handling stay in total cost, including cases that remain unresolved. You supply the resolution and reopen rates; the tool does not measure customer satisfaction or predict those rates.

Example scenario

With 1,000 illustrative tickets, two AI attempts per ticket at 0.01 dollars each cost 20 dollars. An 80 percent initial resolution rate with 25 percent of those resolutions reopening leaves 600 durable AI resolutions. The other 400 tickets need six human minutes each at 30 dollars per hour, adding 1,200 dollars. If all escalations resolve, total cost per resolved ticket is 1.22 dollars.

What the inputs mean

  • Incoming tickets: Enter your own value in count. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • AI attempts per ticket: Enter your own value in attempts. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Cost per AI attempt: Enter your own value in USD. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Initially resolved by AI: Enter your own value in %. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Reopened share of AI resolutions: Enter your own value in %. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Human time per escalation: Enter your own value in minutes. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Human labor rate: Enter your own value in USD / hour. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Escalated tickets resolved by humans: Enter your own value in %. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.

What the result means

The result shows durable AI resolutions, escalations and cost per actually resolved ticket under your assumptions. Escalated but unresolved cases continue to consume budget.

Assumptions

  • All initially unresolved or reopened AI tickets escalate once. The human resolution rate applies to escalated tickets; unresolved cases stay in the cost numerator. Choose a fixed follow-up window and add monitoring, review and infrastructure to your unit costs.
  • Default inputs are original illustrative examples, not provider quotes or measured customer outcomes.
  • Shared links preserve numeric assumptions and engine version; downloads do not include raw imported files.

Where the prices come from

Rates in this tool are editable user assumptions. No provider API is called and no input is refreshed automatically. Verify current billing units and terms separately before using the scenario for a purchasing decision.

Formula and methodology

Durable AI resolutions = tickets x initial AI resolution fraction x (1 - reopen fraction). Escalations = tickets - durable AI resolutions. Total resolutions = durable AI resolutions + escalations x human resolution fraction. Total cost = tickets x AI attempts per ticket x AI cost per attempt + escalations x human minutes / 60 x human hourly rate. Divide all cost by total resolutions, not replies.

Interpretation guide

  • Compare alternatives with the same workload assumptions.
  • Stress-test output-heavy, retry-heavy, cache-miss, and power-user cases before committing budget.
  • Verify source links and production logs before using the estimate for billing decisions.

Limitations before production billing decisions

Treat ByteCosts calculations as planning estimates, not final billing totals. Real invoices can differ because token mix, retry rate, cache hit rate, rate limits, taxes, gateway fees, regional pricing, and negotiated discounts change the effective cost.

Verify the provider source before production billing decisions, then compare the estimate with your own logs or invoice once production traffic is live.
