GPU Rental Total Cost Calculator

Calculate whole-node GPU rental cost with stopped storage, remaining traffic allowance, billing minimums, setup fees and explicit taxes. The price of a multi-GPU instance is the price of the entire rentable node. Dividing by its GPU count gives a comparison unit, not a promise that a single GPU can be rented separately. Persistent volumes can remain billable after compute stops. This scenario makes those time bases visible and keeps setup, traffic and taxes separate. A zero in an editable fee field is your assumption, not evidence that a provider includes that service for free.

Example scenario

Illustrative example: one 8-GPU node at 8 dollars per node-hour runs for 100 hours. Compute costs 800 dollars, not 100 dollars. A 100 GB volume at 0.10 dollars per GB-month retained for the full 730-hour planning month costs 10 dollars. With 50 dollars setup and no other entered charges, the total is 860 dollars.

What the inputs mean

  • Whole nodes: Enter nodes for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • GPUs per node: Enter GPUs for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Entire node hourly rate: Enter USD / node-hour for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Running hours per node: Enter hours for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Equal-duration starts per node: Enter starts for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Minimum per start: Enter seconds for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Billing increment: Enter seconds for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Total persistent storage: Enter GB for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Running storage rate: Enter USD / GB-month for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Stopped storage rate: Enter USD / GB-month for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Storage retention including stopped time: Enter hours for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Hours used by this monthly conversion: Enter hours for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Internet outbound traffic: Enter GB for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Free allowance still available: Enter GB for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Applicable flat overage rate: Enter USD / GB for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • One-time setup per node: Enter USD for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • All other deployment costs: Enter USD for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.
  • Illustrative effective tax rate: Enter % for the same workload and billing period. The initial value is illustrative, not an observed provider rate.

What the result means

The result exposes the cost components and capacity constraint that determine this scenario. A missing feasible crossover is shown explicitly rather than converted into a zero-cost result.

Assumptions

  • The price of a multi-GPU instance is the price of the entire rentable node.
  • Default rates and workloads are original hypothetical examples. No measured provider performance or negotiated price is implied.
  • Monthly conversion hours are a planning input, not a universal billing rule. GB and GiB must be normalized before entering storage or traffic quantities.
  • Copied results contain numeric assumptions and scenario explanations only. Model weights, prompts, API keys and private invoices are never requested.

Where the prices come from

This calculator does not automatically fill prices from a provider catalog. Verify the exact SKU, billing unit, region, tax treatment and effective date, then enter the applicable rate. Unknown charges remain unresolved until supplied.

Formula and methodology

Compute = nodes x starts x rounded seconds per start / 3600 x node hourly rate. Storage = deployment-wide GB x (running rate x running hours + stopped rate x stopped hours) / billing-month hours. Add net egress, per-node setup, other costs and scenario tax.

Interpretation guide

  • Compare alternatives with the same workload assumptions.
  • Stress-test output-heavy, retry-heavy, cache-miss, and power-user cases before committing budget.
  • Verify source links and production logs before using the estimate for billing decisions.

Limitations before production billing decisions

Treat ByteCosts calculations as planning estimates, not final billing totals. Real invoices can differ because token mix, retry rate, cache hit rate, rate limits, taxes, gateway fees, regional pricing, and negotiated discounts change the effective cost.

Verify the provider source before production billing decisions, then compare the estimate with your own logs or invoice once production traffic is live.
