Cost per Accepted AI Task Calculator

Cost per accepted AI task is all model, tool and review spend divided by the number of accepted results. Failed attempts remain in spend because you paid for them even when they did not produce usable work. Enter totals from the same evaluation window and define acceptance before comparing models. The calculator does not infer quality, rank models or assume that a different model will consume the same number of tokens.

Example scenario

In an illustrative 100-attempt evaluation, 80 results are accepted. Model spend is 10 dollars, tools cost 2 dollars, and an hour of total review at 24 dollars per hour adds 24 dollars. Total cost is 36 dollars and cost per accepted result is 0.45 dollars. Counting only successful API calls would understate the cost of the evaluation.

What the inputs mean

  • Total attempts, including failures: Enter your own value in count. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Accepted results: Enter your own value in count. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Total model spend: Enter your own value in USD. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Total tool spend: Enter your own value in USD. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Total review time: Enter your own value in minutes. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.
  • Review labor rate: Enter your own value in USD / hour. The initial value is illustrative; replace it with measured usage or a documented assumption.

What the result means

Use the accepted-result cost alongside the same acceptance criteria, task sample and review standard for every alternative. A small evaluation is not automatically representative of production.

Assumptions

  • Enter totals from one evaluation window, including failures. An accepted task is defined by you. The calculator does not infer model quality or turn a small sample into a reliable benchmark.
  • Default inputs are original illustrative examples, not provider quotes or measured customer outcomes.
  • Shared links preserve numeric assumptions and engine version; downloads do not include raw imported files.

Where the prices come from

Rates in this tool are editable user assumptions. No provider API is called and no input is refreshed automatically. Verify current billing units and terms separately before using the scenario for a purchasing decision.

Formula and methodology

Review cost = total review minutes / 60 x hourly labor rate. Total cost = all model spend + all tool spend + review cost. Cost per accepted result = total cost / accepted results. Acceptance share = accepted results / total attempts. No finite accepted-result cost is reported when accepted results are zero.

Interpretation guide

  • Compare alternatives with the same workload assumptions.
  • Stress-test output-heavy, retry-heavy, cache-miss, and power-user cases before committing budget.
  • Verify source links and production logs before using the estimate for billing decisions.

Limitations before production billing decisions

Treat ByteCosts calculations as planning estimates, not final billing totals. Real invoices can differ because token mix, retry rate, cache hit rate, rate limits, taxes, gateway fees, regional pricing, and negotiated discounts change the effective cost.

Verify the provider source before production billing decisions, then compare the estimate with your own logs or invoice once production traffic is live.
